Have you ever mixed yellow and blue to make green? Have
you combined complimentary colors in a collage to create
high contrast? How could you make an aesthetically pleasing
work of art focusing on negative space?
Emerson students
start the school year learning about the elements of art
in different media. Learning is articulated across grade
levels to build on previous years instruction. Art
projects often support the core curriculum being studied
in the classrooms. For example, second graders create mosaic
masks while studying the Aztecs. Fourth and Fifth graders
create pictographs while learning about Native Californians.
Kindergartners make "pattern necklaces" to support
their study of mathematical patterns.
The art room
is a place to learn, a place to express oneself and a place
to enjoy colors, shapes and a wide range of media. Emerson
students are lucky enough to have art once a week with a
certificated art teacher.Back
