Cooking & Nutrition

Chef Carrie Orth

Our successful, popular, and yummy cooking and nutrition program is part of the Champions for Change grant funded by the USDA.

  • All Emerson students receive two hour-long classes per month, either in their classroom or in a multi-purpose space.
  • The classes provide practical, hands-on experience with fresh, whole, seasonal fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains.
  • Students prepare all steps of a seasonal recipe, focusing on basic kitchen skills, easily accessible tools, and cultural diversity.
  • Kids naturally learn manners, math, vocabulary, science, and local geography. The best part? Tasting their delicious creations, of course!
