Walkathon and Bookfair 2004

Thanks to all the parents who volunteered, and all the people who came out to help make our Walkathon a lot of fun. We had a great turnout with 140 walkers on a perfect autumn morning. There was delicious BBQ, a bagel and bake sale and plenty of cold drinks. Many thanks to Sidney Spence for organizing this big and successful event, to Monica Santos and her mentors and to David Walton.

Bookfair sets a new record in book sales!
Emerson teachers will receive bundles of books thanks to lots of support for the Walkathon Bookfair! Thanks to all the families, teachers, and friends who shopped. Many people generously bought books as gifts for teachers’ classroom collections from teachers’ wishlist of desired titles. We sold more books than ever before – our teachers will now receive $1,800 in free book credits from Scholastic.

Thanks to organizer Tish Brewster and to Sarah Bade, Carolyn Capps, Ayana Chapman, Sara Grunstein, Grace Kang, and Tim Melton for volunteering in advance and working extra-long shifts because we were so busy. Lots of gratitude to Rafael Friedmann and many others who jumped in to help with set-up, take-down and other assorted jobs. And of course Mr. Lou without whom we could never run a bookfair. It was a busy booth and we needed the dedicated crew that pitched in. THANK YOU!
