Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
Thank you so much for all the appreciation shared for the office staff and for me over the course of last week. It was so thoughtful of you to send the flowers, notes, gift cards, candy and other tasty treats as a way of saying thank you for all that we do. On the behalf of Sonia and Sandra, we would like to say thank you as well—we love partnering with all of the parents and guardians to make Emerson the very special school that it is. We most certainly couldn't do it without you.
On another note, the teachers and I would like you to be aware of a small change we are making this month. While we traditionally celebrate Mother's Day in May, we are going to transition to a broader and more inclusive way of recognizing the people who care for our children. Rather than a focus just on mothers, we will be celebrating Family Day, so that children can thank any or all of the loved ones who take such wonderful care of them. I hope that works better for all of our families.

Read-a-Thon Materials Due!
Hope your student had a great time reading and supporting Emerson! Reading log, pledge log, and money are due Friday, May 11. Please send materials in the manila envelope. Even if your child did not collect pledges we want your child’s reading minutes to count! There's a cool gift for every kid who participates just by reading! Thanks!
Adopt-a-Baby-Chick!
Interested in Adopting Kindergarten Baby Chickens? The eggs are in the incubator and due to hatch on May 9th! This year’s chicks are a very special breed of purebred Silkies! They will be ready to take home on Friday, May 18th. Please email Ms. Woolridge if you are interested at stefaniwoolridge@berkeley.net or stop by Room 6. Thank you!

Last PTA Association Meeting Tomorrow
Join us Friday, May 4th, 2018 during Morning Coffee on the yard (8;15am) for the last PTA association of the year. During the meeting we will vote on the board for next year, approve the budget for 2018-2019 and discuss exciting volunteer opportunities. Can't wait to see you there!
Volunteers Needed: Arab Heritage Month
We will be celebrating Arab Heritage Month (a little bit late) Friday, May 11th at lunch recess with food, drums, music and fun! We are looking for volunteers to help us with the day, especially bringing typical Arab foods for the kids to enjoy.

Got Books?
May Is Emerson Book Drive Month! We need BOOKS, BOOKS, and more BOOKS!
Please donate new/gently used children's books of all levels (K - 5th grade). Books will be collected for our summer book giveaway and classroom libraries.
Bring books to Ms. Jeannie's room (across from the Main Office) or to Ms. Zoe in the Emerson Library. Book donations accepted through the month of May!

Join the Enrichment Team!
We are looking for 2-3 parent volunteers to join our crew for 2018-2019.
- Enrichment Lead Coordinator -- good organizational skills; able to manage team of volunteers and keep flow of program on track.
- Instructor Liaison and Contracts with BUSD--1 or 2 detail-oriented folks needed; involves instructor support, invoice monitoring, and interface between Emerson, BUSD, and instructors.

Incoming Willard families, please join us Thursday, May 10 6:30-8:30 pm to meet other Willard parents and learn more about getting involved in the Willard community.
