HOur of Code is Next Week!
(Hour of code takes place the week of December 4 - 8)
Emerson will join thousands of schools worldwide during National Computer Science week for Hour of Code, a global movement to introduce kids to coding while making it fun. All Emerson students will participate in fun and interactive computer lessons led by Emerson parent volunteers. This year, the theme for Hour of Code is Creativity with Artificial Intelligence. Now, more than ever, with the attention on artificial intelligence, it's important for educators to engage students in computer science, coding, and AI. Shout-out to Amy and Kaolin Fire (parents of Fenris and Phoenix) and Ms. Suzuki, 4th grade teacher, for coordinating volunteers to help with this school-wide project.

Giving thanks to 4th grade parents, Staff and Teachers!
Each month, a different grade hosts a Teacher and Staff appreciation lunch. Just before the holiday break, 4th grade parents hosted lunch and our wonderful Emerson educators enjoyed a delicious meal. Special thanks to Emma Cott for taking the lead!

Message from Lily Howell, Emerson Office of Equity and Family Engagement
Hello Amazing Emerson Families,
We want to make sure that every child in our community has a good winter holiday. Ms Lily, our Family Engagement Specialist, will be collecting donations of gift cards to distribute to families who need them this Holiday season. If this is something your family would like to contribute to, we would love your support. We would appreciate gift cards to Target, Walmart, Ross, or Amazon. Grocery store gift cards are also appreciated. If you are interested in contributing you may bring donated gift cards to the front office or directly to Ms. Lily in the Family Engagement Office from now until Wednesday, December 20th.

We will be holding an online random drawing for a set of Oakland Zoo tickets (2 adults and 2 kids) or a $50 gift certificate to Topgolf! Every family that donated any amount to the Heart of Emerson on Giving Tuesday was automatically entered into this random drawing: https://emersonelementary.org/heart-of-emerson.
