BUSD MARCH MADNESS ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE: WEEK TWO

Please join us in Week Two of the March Madness Attendance Challenge! This week we compete with Rosa Parks Elementary School for the best attendance.

During March, Emerson will battle one other Berkeley Elementary School each week for the best attendance. This means, no tardies or unexcused absences. Be to school no later than 8:15 am each day.

If Emerson wins, we will earn a trophy and a student school-wide reward.

Ramadan observance

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Muslim calendar and this year, it began Monday and Tuesday of this week and will end on April 9th, 2024. This holy month is observed through fasting, prayer, study, and increased charity and generosity. Fasting is when you do not eat food or drink water. During Ramadan, families gather to eat before the sun comes up and after the sun goes down. Please check out this PDF lesson created by a BUSD student to learn more about Ramadan! Read-a-Thon Update

Emerson students - you rock! You’re challenging yourselves and discovering new types of books to read. Keep up the great work. You have a few more days left to read, read, read! The Read-a-Thon ends at the end of the day on March 17th.

Don’t forget to use the Reading Log to record your minutes - and, adults, don’t forget to initial each day. Your classroom teacher will let you know how to turn in your reading log. Please make sure it’s turned in by March 22nd to be eligible for prizes.

We encourage everyone to use the 99 pledges platform to make Read-A-Thon donations: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/emersonele24 as this makes the process super easy.

However, for those who want to donate another way, here are some additional options:

ART CORNER WITH MS. AMES

Kindergarten Artists love Mo Willems!

After reading The Pigeon Needs a Bath!, we did a directed drawing of the pigeon. I talked them through the steps to help them see the lines and shapes (but always reminding them that they are free to do it in their own way). They used watercolor paint to add color and whatever background they wanted.
